Cabinet approves Ahmedabad-Dholera semi-high-speed rail: Rs 20,667 crore, about 134 km, target 2030-31
The CCEA approved the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej)-Dholera semi-high-speed rail on 13 May 2026: roughly Rs 20,667 crore for an approximately 134 km double line connecting Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR, the airport and Lothal, with completion targeted up to 2030-31.
The PIB release (ID 2260624) describes India's first semi-high-speed rail on indigenous technology under PM Gati Shakti, serving around 284 villages with roughly five lakh residents along the corridor. The widely quoted 220 km per hour speed and 45-48 minute journey time are press figures; the PIB release states cost, length and timeline, not a speed.
The line is the third connectivity anchor after the expressway, open since March 2026, and the airport.
